8 students graduate through the PSF program

NORWAC continues to support the Palestinian Student Fund (PSF) in its longstanding effort to provide university scholarships to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon pursuing careers in the health field. The health sector is among the few career paths requiring higher education where Palestinian refugees in Lebanon can find employment, due to the strict restrictions on Palestinian labour in the country.

The ongoing economic crisis and epidemic in Lebanon have made it more challenging for Palestinians to fund their own education. At the same time, the demand for medical personnel in the labour market has increased, highlighting the importance and relevance of the support offered by NORWAC partners.

In Lebanon, Palestinians are generally not permitted to work in professions regulated by professional syndicates. Certain roles, such as nursing, may be permitted to help address the country’s significant nursing shortage. Consequently, Palestinians with a university or vocational nursing qualification can often enter the Lebanese labour market and secure stable employment in various hospitals, clinics, and Palestinian institutions.

Nursing is viewed as a secure professional choice for young Palestinians, as Lebanese society is likely to continue needing more nurses in the future. Nevertheless, most Palestinian families cannot afford to send their children to university or cover college fees. By providing scholarships and loans for students to attend university and vocational training in nursing, young Palestinians are empowered through education and given the chance to enter the Lebanese labour market, enabling them to support their families and reducing their social and economic marginalisation.

During the selection process, priority is given to residents of camps and impoverished areas, as well as to particularly talented children based on their academic achievements. The geographic distribution of students is also taken into consideration.

NORWAC congratulates the graduates and the PSF for their achievements!
