Mental Health Conference

Hosted by National Institution of Social Care and Vocational Training – Beit Atfal Assumoud, the 12th annual Mental Health Conference successfully gathered several researchers, academics, and representatives from international, Lebanese and Palestinian NGO’s. The conference included two days with interesting presentations, discussions and workshops at the Saint Joseph University in Beirut on the 19th and 20th of October.

With over 20 speakers and six workshops, this year’s conference was entitled “Psychological Wellbeing and Mental Health: Interaction between Children, Parents and Environment.” This created a great opportunity to actively encourage intersectoral action to improve and expand mental health care in Lebanon.

Among the speakers were Norway’s ambassador to Lebanon Mrs. Lene Lind, and Dr. Rabih El Chammay from Ministry of Public Health and head of the National Mental Health Program.

This year’s event was dedicated to the late Dr. Svein Staff from NORWAC who worked devotedly with NISCVT, the Mental Health Program of Beit Atfal Assumoud for the past 20 years and the Mental Health Conference that he initiated from the beginning in 2007.

The annual Mental Health conference plays an outstanding role in raising awareness and uniting specialists, future professionals and front-line workers to come together and share ideas and work across different sectors and fields to set the agenda for the future of mental health in Lebanon and provide the best possible follow-up for those living with mental health conditions.

The annual Mental Health Conference is sponsored by NORWAC.
