Mental Health Conference

The 9th Annual Conference on Mental Health – Beirut, Lebanon:

“Towards a better Wellbeing: Inter-Sectoral approaches in Mental Health”


The event brought together some 100 key representatives and officials from Lebanon and abroad to discuss the promotion of inter-sectoral approaches to mental health. It also provided a platform for workshops and set the stage for further cooperation among participating organizations. The host of the conference is The National Institute of Social Care and Vocational Training (NISCVT).

The conference began with opening remarks by, Ms. Stine Horn, First Secretary at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beirut. Ms. Horn highlighted the need to strengthen mental health promotion among both Palestinian and Syria refugees, and found value in the conference’s wide range of topics such as “mobilizing community based resources” and “Arts Therapy”. Ms. Horn also commended the efforts of NISCVT over many years and was pleased that the Norwegian government supports their important work.

Participants at the conference enjoyed music and dance performances by Palestinian children from refugee camps. The International Conference of Palestinian Mental Health is held annually in Lebanon, and is sponsored by NORWAC.
