Beit Atfal Assomoud and the Familiy Guidance Center hosted this year’s International Conference of Palestinian Mental Health on June 6-7 at UNESCO Palace in Beirut. The topic was “What works for whom in armed conflicts?” The opening ceremony took place in the great hall. Norway’s ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Mr. Svein Aass, held the opening speech.Beit Atfal Assomoud

140 participants from Palestine, US, Norway, Finland and Italy together with representatives from a range of Palestinian and Lebanese NGOs enjoyed two days of interesting plenary presentations, discussions and workshops. Unfortunately, our colleagues from Gaza were prevented from participating. However, a summary of their presentations was given on their behalf.

Participants at the conference enjoyed music and dance performances by Palestinian children from refugee camps. The children also contributed with an impressive art exhibition.

The International Conference of Palestinian Mental Health has been held annually in Lebanon since 2007, and is sponsored by NORWAC. The planning of next year’s conference will commence soon. By the end of November 2014 the topic and date should be determined.
